Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime Launched, Starts 'Make In India' Journey In Andhra Pradesh | News World India

Xiaomi has launched Redmi 2 Prime, its first ever made in India smartphone on Monday in Visakhapatnam. The 4G dual-SIM budget smartphone has been priced at Rs 6,999.

Redmi 2 Prime is the first smartphone to be manufactured in the country by the Chinese smartphone maker.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was present at the launch. He said, “It is a matter of pride to have Xiaomi set up the manufacturing unit here in India.”

Xiaomi Global VP Hugo Barra addressed the media and Mi fans while announcing the new smartphone.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime features the exact same set of specifications as Redmi 2 except twice the RAM, and twice the inbuilt storage, with 2GB of RAM instead of 1GB, and 16GB of inbuilt storage instead of 8GB.

The dual-SIM dual-standby Xiaomi Redmi 2 sports a 4.7-inch IPS display with HD (720×1280 pixel) resolution and 312ppi. The smartphone runs MIUI 6, based on Android 4.4 KitKat.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 runs on a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor (Cortex-A53) and Adreno 306 GPU. It features an 8-megapixel rear camera along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The handset’s inbuilt storage can also be expanded via microSD card (up to 32GB).

The budget smartphone also features regular connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS besides 4G LTE (TDD/FDD) network support. Available in five colour variants – Yellow, Pink, Green, White, and Black, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 is backed by a 2200mAh battery. The device weighs 133 grams and is 9.4mm-thick.
