The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned Centre’s plea against Nainital High Court’s order revoking President’s rule in Uttarakhand till May 6.
Presenting the case on behalf of the Centre, Atorney General Mukul Rohtagi told the Supreme Court that the government is considering the court’s suggestion to hold the floor test in the hilly state.
The AG told the SC that he has conveyed the suggestion of conducting the floor test to the Centre. However, he has not received any instruction so far.
Meanwhile, the apex court has made it clear that even if the floor test is to take place, it will not mean the restoration if status quo to the chief minister or the government.
Earlier on Tuesday, a bench comprising of Justices Dipak Misra had repeated its suggestion that the Centre should consider holding a floor test in the Assembly under its supervision to ascertain the actual situation.
It had also asked the AG to take instruction on the issue and apprise it about the same on Wednesday, while adjourning the hearing till May 4.
