A carpenter on Thursday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in helping him get a loan claiming banks were refusing him the grant with subsidy and officials were asking for a bribe.
Sandip Soni, a resident of Barra area in Kanpur, had inscribed all the 18 episodes and 706 shlokas of Bhagwad Gita on wood.

He claims he had shown his work to Modi, who had personally recommended him to officials for a loan under Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) to start a factory.
But, he claims, banks refused to grant him a subsidy.
On Thursday, Soni sent a letter to the Prime Minister alleging that in spite of his personal recommendations, he has been running from pillar to post for more than four months to get the loan.
He also alleged that bank officials were asking for the bribe.
