Most African countries, some European nations and many South-East Asian countries have indicated a keen interest in having Indian expertise in health care, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said
on Sunday.
She said there are lots of demand for projects to be exported from India and medical and health services topped the list.
“Most African countries, European nations and South-East Asian countries really appreciate Indian expertise in health care, medical practice including eye care,” she said at a function organised here by a private eye hospital.
“They are looking for India to be able to come over with their manpower, investment, technology and with their experience to come and establish hospitals for them,” she added.
“They are fully willing to give sovereign support, they are willing to help (Indian healthcare industry) to train
their doctors, there are lots of such requests,” she noted. During bilateral talks, ministers representing several countries had evinced interest in Indian super- specialists in disciplines including nephrology and ophthalmology, she said.
Referring to the travails of salt pan workers, several of whom had to battle loss of vision due to over exposure to sunlight and its glare, an occupational hazard, she said workers like them needed support.
“People like you have opportunity to educate others and train others who can speak to them so that they can prevent themselves from getting exposed to excessive sunlight and its glare, and some lifestyle related diseases which may affect the eye.”
