Nearly four out of five women in India have experienced some form of harassment or violence in public, claims a study by an international charity organisation ActionAid UK.
The study was based on an survey which was conducted by British market research firm YouGov in early May.

According to reports, the survey polled around 500 women living in cities across the country, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata and found that 84 percent of the respondents who experienced harassment were aged between 25 and 35 years old and were largely working women and students.
In other findings, the survey revealed that more than 75 percent of the respondents had been groped in public while over 50 percent of them had been followed at some point of time.
Forty-six percent reported insults and name-calling in public, 44 percent experienced wolf-whistling, 16 percent had been drugged and nine percent reported they had been raped.
