Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has landed himself in trouble for crticising Supreme Court’s decision on National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC).
A local court in Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh has reportedly directed the police to file a sedition case against Jaitley for criticizing the Apex Court.
Reports said that the district Court told police to register an FIR under Section 505 (false statement circulated with intent to cause mutiny or offence against public peace) and Section 124 (a) (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code against Jaitley.
Reports added that, civil Judge Ankit Goel also summoned the Finance Minister for a hearing on November 19. T
The Mahoba district Court maintained that Union Minister’s statement was an ‘anti-national act’.
Reacting to Apex Court’s judgment striking down NJAC, the Union Minister had said, “The Indian democracy cannot be a tyranny of the unelected and if the elected are undermined, democracy itself would be in danger”.
