According to Kremlin, the breakthrough came after Erdogan sent a letter of apology
to Moscow for downing a Russian warplane near the Syrian-Turkish border last year.
Following the incident, Moscow had slapped a range of sanctions on Ankara including
embargo on some Turkish food items, ban on chartered flights, sales of tour packages to the country and end of visa-free travels.
In a statement, Kremlin said that Putin expressed “profound condolences” over Monday’s terror attacks near the Istanbul airport that killed at least 41 people and injured over 140
others.
