Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he was personally touched by Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s gesture of welcoming him at the airport and also seeing him off.

“Am personally touched by Nawaz Sharif Sahab’s gesture of welcoming me at Lahore airport and coming to the airport when I left,” Modi said in a tweet after returning to New Delhi.

He also termed as “very touching” Sharif’s affection towards BJP veteran and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

“He (Sharif) recalled their interactions & asked me to convey his regards to Atal ji,” Modi said in another tweet.

Modi, who sprang a surprise by making a sudden stopover in Lahore on his return to New Delhi from Kabul, said he had a spent a warm evening with the Sharif family at their family
home.

“Nawaz Sahab’s birthday & granddaughter’s marriage made it a double celebration,” he added.

Soon after his return from foreign tour, PM Modi visited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s house here and greeted him on his 91st birthday.

Modi drove straight to 6A Krishna Menon Marg of Vajpayee from the airport after landing from Lahore where he had a brief stopover on his way back from visits to Russia and
Afghanistan.

“Visited Atalji at his residence and conveyed birthday greetings to him,” Modi tweeted.

Earlier, Modi hailed Vajpaye as a leader who distinguished himself in every role, while greeting him on his birthday.

“Birthday greetings to our beloved Atalji. We salute this great personality who provided exceptional leadership to India at a crucial time,” the PM had tweeted earlier in the
day.
