Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that he is saddened by the death of dalit scholar Rohith Vemula, who committed sucide in Hyderabad University on Sunday.

Prime Minister Modi while reaching out to Rohiths family said that he can understand the pain of a mother who lost her son.

“”A mother has lost his son, there cannot be a bigger grief. Politics aside, I can well understand the pain,”Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while addressing the 6th convocation of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow.

25-year-old Rohith Vemula was found hanging in his hostel room on Sunday. His suicide created a massive political uproar in the country.

Reports say he was stagging protest along with four other Dalit scholars over their suspension following an alleged clash with some leaders of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

Meanwhile, the Union HRD ministry has set up a Judicial Commission to look into the sequence of events leading to Rohith Vemula’s suicide, based on report by the ministry’s fact-finding team.

The panel will submit its report in three days.
