Pathankot Airbase Remains 'Highly Unsafe': Parliamentary Panel | NWI

The parliamentary panel, which is probing the terrorist attack on Pathankot Indian Air Force Base in January, on Tuesday said that the airbase remains highly unsafe.

“Even today, there are very unsafe conditions of Pathankot airbase,” said Chairman of the Parliament Standing Committee on Home Affairs Pradip Bhattacharya.

While stressing that the security at the airbase was ‘not robust’, the committee urged the Centre to take immediate steps to take appropriate steps to strengthen the security system.

The panel while stressing that there was “something seriously wrong with the country’s counter-terror establishments” said that, “GoI should allot huge amount of money for modernisation of police forces.”

The committee failed to understand how the terrorists managed to reach Pathankot airbase inspite of terror alerts sounded well in advance.

“How did it happen? Who gave this information to Delhi Airforce? These are remarkable things to search out,” he said.

The committee interacted with the officers at the Pathankot airbase and found out that they had no information that the airbase would be attacked.

“We had a long interaction with officers at the Pathankot airbase. They said that there was no information that the airbase will be attacked,” Bhattacharya said.
