Delhi’s odd even scheme, AAP government’s ambitious project to curb pollution, will continue as scheduled at least till January 15. Delhi High Court on Monday refused to interfere with Delhi govt’s notification on the odd-even vehicle scheme. The court was hearing various pleas challenging the scheme.
A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath had reserved the verdict last week. The court told government that if it wishes to continue the odd even scheme in future than it should take into consideration the issues raised by the various petitioners.
Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government on Sunday said that air pollution caused by vehicular traffic has declined by 50 percent in the national capital.
“More than 50 percent drop in air pollution primarily caused by vehicular traffic has been recorded according to the latest ambient air data collected by mobile teams of Delhi Pollution Control Committee on Saturday at 18 locations, through mobile dust samplers on using the light scattering technique,” the government said in a statement.
Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai has maintained that the odd-even car restriction scheme would not be extended beyond 15 days and termed as “false” reports saying it could go on.
In December, after the high court called Delhi a “gas chamber”, the Aam Aadmi Party government decided to implement the scheme which allows odd- and even-numbered cars to ply on alternate dates.
