Maldives former President Mohamed Nasheed had been brought to Male for medical check-up without his family and lawyers being informed.
Nasheed was brought to Male on the advice of his doctor MRI scan after which he was taken back straight to Maafushi prison.
According to RaajjeMV, media official at MCS, Moosa Rameez said that they were not obligated to inform the family and legal team of an inmate every time he is brought for consultation or treatment.
Nasheed’s doctors had advised him to get an MRI scan after four weeks of rest in a “stress free environment.”
While the former President was brought to ADK Hospital on Sunday morning, his lawyers have revealed that they had learnt of this after seeing their client at the hospital.
Rameez said that Nasheed had been brought to Male’ for the MRI scan and had been taken straight to Maafushi Prison, where he is serving his 13 year sentence.
Furthermore, he revealed that under normal procedure, if any additional treatments had been carried out on Nasheed, that his family and lawyers would have been informed.
MCS aslo revealed that they had initially arranged to bring Nasheed to Male’ last Sunday, as requested by his doctors, but that they had been unable to travel due to bad weather.
Nasheed was arrested on the 22nd of February on terrorism charges and had been convicted and sentenced to 13 years imprisonment by the Criminal Court on the 13th of March after a rushed trial.
