Labour’s candidate to be London Mayor on Monday revealed that his feared that his daughter could be lured by Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists out joining their outfit.
In a moving speech in Westminster, Muslim MP Sadiq Khan warned that action should be taken to prevent children accessing from extremist material on internet.
“This fight is personal for me. Like all parents, I want to know that my daughters are safe. I worry that they or their friends could be groomed by extremists on the internet. Or tricked into running off to Syria like other children have been,” said Khan, who won the Labour Nomination to stand for London mayor in september.
Speaking to parliamentary press gallery, Khan, while praising the diversity of the country said that ‘it was a mark of London’s diversity that a Labour Muslim could go up against a Conservative Jewish candidate in a ‘good clean fight’.
He also cautioned, that more is to be done to encourage integration between different religions in the capital and across Britain to prevent more young people being radicalised.
‘Not enough has been done to ensure that children can’t access extremist materials on the internet. Because radicalisation doesn’t happen via sermons in Mosque. It happens in the unguarded spaces of the internet. I will work with the Government to force the internet providers to get their act together.’ He added.
On Thursday hundreds of Muslim groups took out an advert condemning the Paris terror attacks, that left 135 deal and over 300 injured, and pledging allegiance to ‘the values of pluralism and tolerance’.
A message placed in the London’s National Press criticised the ‘barbaric acts’ of the ISIS bombers and denounced them.
It also praised a security guard who was working at the Stade de France at the time of the assault and is believed to be a Muslim, saying that ‘brave individuals’ like him should be seen as the true representatives of Islam.
