After movies like Cheeni Kum, Paa and Shamitabh, once again writer and director R Balki brings a well-executed love story of an unconventional couple.
Director: R. Balki
Cast: Arjun Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swarup Sampat and Rajit Kapur
After movies like Cheeni Kum, Paa and Shamitabh, once again writer and director R Balki brings a well-executed love story of an unconventional couple. Dealing with the concept of role reversal, the film focuses on the idea of house-husband.
It is a story of Kia (Kareena Kapoor) and Kabir (Arjun Kapoor) who meet in a flight. Kia is a self-dependent, working women who wants to pursue a corporate career, while Kabir is a son of a real estate tycoon who opts to be called house-husband. It will be quite humorous to see him explaining the reason. So, the story revolves around Kia and Kabir who meet in a flight, fall in love and eventually get married, but then their life takes a turn.
This off beat story is undoubtedly beautiful and the role reversal concept is something unique and different. Indeed, Ki & Ka is refreshingly clutter-free flick as it sticks to a single-line plot.

Talking about the actors and acting, the two principal characters have given an absolute amazing performance, unlike others. Swarup Sampat plays the role of Kia’s broad-minded mother, while Rajit Kapur is Kabir’s tradition-abiding father.
The icing on cake are the guest appearances by Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan who are essaying their real life roles.
Though technically Ki & Ka is a superb film, script might have improved a bit. Cinematographer P C Sreeram has delivered some of the most amazing and astonishing frames.
The first half of the film is bit slow, but the flow will keep you glued to seats. The songs don’t integrate well into the narration, however the song ‘Ji Huzoori‘ is beautifully executed and sung, for which credit goes to Mithoon.
Overall, Ki & Ka shows a fresh spin on the relationship of a man-woman and well it is worth a watch for Balki’s idea and Arjun Kapoor’s honest performance.
