Kamal Haasan: Won’t Give My National Award | News World India

After Anupam Kher and Vidya Balan, now one of the finest actors of Indian cinema Kamal Haasan has made it clear that he will not return his National Award.

During a press conference, Kamal said , “I won’t do it. That’s my right. Returning awards will not have any effect… It is also necessary for them (the people returning awards) to be tolerant.”

When Kamal was asked about his opinion on if returning awards will bring any change, he said, “Kuchch nahi hoga (Nothing will happen). You will insult the government and the people who gave the award to you.”

Kamal also believes that rather than returning awards, filmmakers and writers should make films and write articles to raise awareness and show their disagreement to any issue.

Earlier, actress Vidya Balan said she will not give back her national award as it was an honour bestowed on her by the country and not the government.

The comment came in the backdrop of some eminent film personalities returning their National Awards in solidarity with FTII students and against growing intolerance in the country.
