Yes! you read it right. It’s International Men’s Day, which is celebrated in more than 70 countries across the world since 1992.
We have already read many posts on feminism, but have we ever encountered the mysterious world of men’s. As the day’s objective is to promote gender equality, let’s dedicate an entire post on them.
However, why do we need one? Aren’t 364 days of patriarchal power and privilege not enough for them? They are everywhere – politics, temples, church, business world, sports and what not, even movies – a good guy and a bad guy (we’re not comparing, it’s your day and we are happy).
While talking to a friend, got to know that men are equally concerned about their roles in society. There are social expectations forced on them troubling. They have pressure to ignore their emotions, they can’t cry, show weakness or have to pursue sport as an interest and many more.
And the humiliation comes when they are asked not to cry or taunted as don’t cry like a girl or get emotional. Calling them being like a girl is the ultimate humiliation. And listening this all the time not only effect them, but also girls. I mean listening this forced me to say I want to be a boy as girls cry.
Surely the men’s rights movement could see how a patriarchal society works. This is the right time to discuss some serious issues men face. It’s not always a girl/woman who faces sexual abuse or domestic violence.
The idea of the post is stop taunting them, stop explaining things to them and please stop forcing them not just today but every day. Because quite frankly, every day is International Men’s Day or better every day is everyone’s day.
Just to end the post on a sweeter not, watch this hilarious video dedicated to them:
