Days after Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar asserted that any individual or organisation that hurts the country should be given the same pain, Army Chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag on Wednesday said that Forces are ready for any ‘cross-border operation, if directed’.
“Indian Army is ready for any cross border operation if directed, We are ready for any task given to us,” Suhag said while addressing the media on Pathankot terror attack.
Responding to the allegation that there was a lack of inter-agency cooperation and coordination, and the three days taken by the forces to kill all the terrorists and sanitise the base was too long.
“I can assure that there was no issue of coordination between the forces at Pathankot,” he said.
“There were two soldiers in the building where two terrorists were holed up. We had to first pull them out and then launch the offensive for the terrorists. It was not an easy operation and we took our time to reduce or minimise the casualties,” said the army chief.
Suhag added that there even there were civilians also in the base and first thing was to rescue them and avoid any hostage situation.
