Today, the search giant Google is paying tribute to the Indian Virtuoso Pandit Ravi Shankar with a very artistic doodle on the occasion of sitar maestro’s 96th birthday.
Today’s special doodle is designed by Kevin Laughlin, keeping a sitar as the centrepiece with the stings spreading likes tree branches to outline Google.
Born on April 7, 1920, as Robindro Shaunkor Chowdhury, Legendry Pandit Ravi Shankar spent his youth touring India and Europe with the dance group of his brother Uday Shankar.
Later, he gave up dancing and started learning sitar playing under the guidance of court musician Allauddin Khan.
He is credited with evangelising the use of Indian instruments in Western music and popularising the fundamentals of Indian music – raga – which he once said has ,” its own peculiar ascending and descending movement consisting of either a full seven-note octave, or a series of six or five notes in a rising or falling structure.”
