Google Doodle Marks 229th Anniversary Of Mont Blanc Ascent | News World India

To celebrate the 229th anniversary of the first ascent to Mont Blanc, Google marked the occasion with their famous doodle.

Called ‘the monarch of mountains’ by Lord Byron, Mont Blanc is the highest point in the Alps and towers more than 15,000 feet above Europe’s sea level.

Mont Blanc, also known as Monte Bianco is the tallest mountain in the Alps and 11th tallest in the world. In 1760 one Horace Benedict de Saussure offered a rewardto anyone who could climb Mont Blanc. On August 8, 1786, Jacques Balmat and Michel Paccard became the first people to reach the top of the peak.

In 1808, Marie Paradis became the first woman to successfully climb Mont Blanc.

The snow-capped mountain is considered one of the world’s deadliest mountains and has highest fatality rate in Europe, yet, thousands of hikers trek the difficult path upon the Alpine towns of Chamonix, Saint-Gervais, and Courmayeur to recreate the iconic expedition.

This doodle has no gifs, or other visual delight for which Google is known for but the simplicity of the artwork is pleasing by clearing showing two mountaineers reaching the peak.
