As protests broke out after a 15-year-old Dalit boy was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Gohana town of Haryana on Thursday, two alleged policemen accused in the murder have been suspended. This incident took place just three days after two Dalit children were burnt alive in a village in Faridabad district.
According to the police, the teen was found dead at his home. His family, though, has alleged that he died in police custody.
“Victim’s family has given statement against 2 policemen and FIR has been registered against both of them. However, no arrests have been made so far,” said Gohana DSP Satish Kumar.
Meanwhile, Home minister Rajnath Singh called Haryana CM ML Khattar and talked about the incident.
Some members of the ‘Gadia lohar’ (ironsmith) community had on Wednesday approached the Sonepat police, charging the boy with the theft of a pigeon and demanded appropriate action against him, Superintendent of Police, Sonepat, Abhishek Garg said.
The victim’s family has refused to cremate the body and staged protests demanding action against the accused policemen.
On Thursday, the boy’s family clashed with the police and placed his body on the road demanding action against the “erring cops”. Protest continued on Friday as well.
There was heavy deployment of police in the area to control the situation.
