French Parliament Votes To Extend Air Strikes In Syria | News World India

French lawmakers on Wednesday voted overwhelmingly to extend air strikes against Islamic State group targets in Syria, which have been stepped up following the Paris attacks.

The National Assembly approved a motion to prolong the operation by 515 votes to four, with 10 abstentions.

During the debate, Prime Minister Manuel Valls said: “France mourns its dead but doesn’t give in. France fights and will fight ruthlessly until it reaches its goal: the destruction of our enemy Daesh (Islamic State).”

Since the Paris attacks took place, France has moved its flagship Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier into the Mediterranean – ensuring it is better placed to bombard IS positions across Iraq and Syria.
