Millions voted on Monday in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, bringing down the curtains on staggered five-state elections and gearing up for exit poll analysis. From C-Voter to Chanakya, all have predicted interesting results, here is state wise report:
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday accused the previous UPA government of “twisting norms” in the process of procuring VVIP choppers from AgustaWestland.
The BJP-led alliance is set to take power in Assam, ending 15 years of Congress rule, by bagging 79 to 93 seats in the 126-member assembly, three exit polls predicted on Monday evening.
A fourth survey gave the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies 57 seats — close to the critical half-way mark.
The India Today-Axis exit poll gave 79-93 seats to the BJP combine, 26-33 to the Congress and 6-10 to the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
ABP-Nielsen predicted 81 seats to the BJP coalition, 33 to the Congress and 10 to the AIUDF.
The NewsX Chanakya poll gave 90 seats to the BJP combine, 27 to the Congress and nine to the AIUDF.
According to the Time Now C-Voter exit poll, the BJP and allies would get 57 seats, the Congress 41, AIUDF 18 and others 10.
In the last elections in Assam, the Congress won 78 seats, the AIUDF 18 and the BJP five seats.
The ruling Trinamool Congress led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will retain power in West Bengal with a slightly reduced majority, two exit polls said on Monday evening.
According to ABP Ananda-AC Nielsen, the Trinamool will win 163 of the state’s 294 assembly seats. The CPI-M-led Left Front and the Congress combine will win in 126 seats with a solitary seat going to the BJP and others winning in the remaining four.
However, the survey said that in 25 constituencies, the margin of victory was less than five percent, and the final result sheet could drastically change depending on the results in these seats.
C-Voter predicted 167 seats for the Trinamool, 75 for the Left, 45 for the Congress, four to the BJP and three to others.
In 2011, the Trinamool stormed power in the state bagging 184 seats. The Congress, which was aligned with it, bagged 42 of the 65 seats it contested. The Left Front, which was ousted from power in the state after 34 years of interrupted rule, only managed to win 62 seats.
The polls now were held in six stages stretched over seven days. The result will be declared on May 19.
Two exit polls on Monday evening predicted a defeat for the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu but a third said Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa was set to retain power.
The News Nation TV exit poll gave 95-99 seats in the 234-member assembly to Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK and 114-118 to the DMK-Congress alliance.
The People Welfare Front (PWF) alliance, made up of six parties, was set to get 14 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) four, it said. Nine seats could go to others.
The Axis-My India exit poll predicted 124-140 seats to the DMK-Congress alliance, 89-110 to the AIADMK, 0-3 to the BJP and 4-8 to others.
The CVoter exit poll, however, said the AIADMK would bag 139 seats, leaving the DMK-Congress alliance at the second place with 78 seats. The BJP was unlikely to win any seat in Tamil Nadu.
The DMK-led alliance is set to win 15-21 seats in the 30-member Puducherry assembly, the India Today-Axis exit poll predicted on Monday evening.
The ruling All India NR Congress (AINRC) would get 8-12 seats, the AIADMK 1-4 seats and others two seats, it said.
