Jameel was impeached in July by his own party and was replaced former Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb.

According to Rajje TV, Jameel in his intended response to the impeachment motion against him, described his last days at office as “standing on the rim of a blade”. He stated that he was blackmailed and threatened of being framed of immense crimes if he did not resign from his post as VP.

Jameel wasn’t given the chance to respond to the 10 sentence motion, and the assessment phase on the government’s impeachment motion was eliminated just prior to the petitioning of the motion.
