Television actress Pratyusha Banerjee, who was found dead at her suburban residence earlier this month under mysterious circumstances, could have been two months pregnant, confirms JJ Hospital doctors.
The 24-year old Balika Vadhu actress was pregnant and had probably undergone an abortion a few days before death. The doctors on Monday made the revelation, on the basis of a histopathological examination of tissues from the uterus.
According to report in TOI, a source close to the investigation told that the findings showed that there was a conception a few days or a month before demise of Pratyusha, and there was a premature death of the foetal cell.
However, experts said the police might not know about the paternity of the child as there are no tissues left. Also, it may be challenging to carry out a DNA test to establish the child’s paternity.
Dean Dr TP Lahane said, “We cannot reveal the findings. The report has been handed over to the police.”
Simultaneously, many departments are working to establish the cause of actress’ death. Up till now, the investigators only have a preliminary autopsy report which states the provisional cause of death as “ligature over the neck with asphyxia”.
