The CPI-M on Wednesday accused the BJP and “Hindutva elements” of trying to raise communal tensions over a “so-called beef consumption” issue in Uttar Pradesh.
A court in Noida on Monday adjourned the hearing on petition seeking registration of an FIR against the family members of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was lynched nine months ago on suspicion that his family stored and ate beef at their house.
A group of Bishada villagers filed a plea against Akhlaq’s family, nine days after the meat examination report from a forensic lab in Mathura stated the sample belonged to a cow or it’s progeny.
According to the petition, a stray calf (bull) from Bisara village had gone missing and was allegedly slaughtered by Akhlaq, his brother and other family members. The petitioner said a group of residents had seen Akhlaq throw some meat in a polythene bag near Bada transformer in the village.
