In a keenly fought bypoll held in the wake of the BJP’s rout in Bihar, the party nominee Nirmala Bhuria is trailing behind her Congress rival by over 60,000 votes in the Ratlam-Jhabua Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh, which the saffron party won in 2014. The ruling party, however, retained the Dewas Assembly constituency by an impressive margin.
Bhuria is trailing behind Congress’s Kantilal Bhuria by over 60,000 votes in the Ratlam-Jhabua Lok Sabha seat, as per the latest trends.
BJP’s Gayatri Raje Puar won the bypoll from Dewas Assembly seat by an impressive margin of 30,778 votes, defeating Congress’ Jai Prakash Shastri, an election official said. Puar got 89,358 votes, while Shastri secured 58,580 votes in the bypoll necessitated by the death of Gayatri’s husband Tukoji Rao Puar of erstwhile royal family of Dewas.
The ruling TRS appears set to retain the Warangal (SC) Lok Sabha seat with its candidate Pasunoori Dayakar establishing a lead of nearly 2.5 lakh votes.
At the end of the tenth-round of counting, Dayakar secured 3,37,122 votes. Congress nominee and former Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana got 88,419 votes, while BJP’s P
Devaiah, supported by TDP, received 67,739 votes.
The bypoll, held on November 21, was necessitated following the resignation of Kadiyam Srihari after he was made Deputy Chief Minister. Srihari had won the seat with a margin of 3.9 lakh votes in last year’s election.
Assembly by-elections:
MP: BJP’s Gayatri Raje Puar wins Dewas assembly seat.
Manipur: BJP wins Thangmeiband and Thongju seats.
Meghalaya: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party wins one seat.
Mizoram: Congress candidate Lal Thanzara has won the Aizawl North-3 seat by 3385 votes.
The Ratlam by poll was being seen as a test of Madhya Pradesh CM Chouhan’s image, which political pundits believe has taken a hit in view of the Vyapam scam and Petlawad blast in which 80 people were killed.
