The Central government on Thursday moved to the Supreme Court seeking relaxation on the ban of diesel taxis and cabs in Delhi and the National Capital Region.
The Centre told the apex court that the ban on diesel taxis was affecting the the BPOs as they use large number of taxis including diesel ones to ferry their employees.
“BPOs bring dollars of foreign exchange, this may go to other countries if BPOs are not able to operate efficiently,” Centre told the SC.
The apex has posted the matter for hearing on May 9.
Earlier on May 4, SC had agreed to examine a proposal by the Delhi government to replace diesel taxis with CNG ones in a phased manner. The top court had also asked the Delhi government to come with a ‘concrete and time-bound roadmap’ in this regard.
