BJP’s Karnataka unit chief BS Yeddyurappa has sparked a fresh controversy with his new ride, a Land Cruiser, which costs about Rs 1 crore.
According to reports, the expensive vehicle was gifted to Yeddyurappa by former industries minister Murugesh R Nirani on his first day in office as state BJP president.
However, team Yeddyurappa in its official statement has said that it is not a new car and it has been arranged just for Yeddyurappa’s tour to drought-hit areas.
NDTV reports, BJP spokesperson in Karnataka S Prakash said the white luxury car has been “loaned” to Mr Yeddyurappa by a sugar baron and politician Murugesh Nirani to tour the state.
“Murugesh Nirani gave me this car for party work. After that, he will take back the car. I am going around in the state, so a good car is required, that’s what he told me,” said BS Yeddyurappa to reporters on Saturday.
Yeddyurappa is not the first minister to hit the headlines for his expensive asset, in February this year, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah`s diamond studded Hublot watch made headlines after JD(S) Kumaraswamy first revealed the watch`s value.
