Since long, Kashmir has been a favourite destination for Bollywood filmmakers. They get breathtaking surroundings in the picturesque valley which matches their idea of a surreal visual. Directors from Late Yash Chopra to Kabir Khan have often chosen it as a preferred location, ’cause its beauty is synonymous to romance. We bring you some of the latest movies that were shot in Switzerland of India.

A substantial part of Kabir Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan was shot in Kashmir, about 30 per cent of the movie has shown scenic views captured from resorts in Pahalgam and Sonamarg. A qawali song that filled the air with tranquillity was shot in at a famous shrine in Ashmuqam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Haider, the modern day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet, was shot in Kashmir. The flick includes splendid views from Majestic Mountains in Pahalgam, the song Bismil was at Martand Sun Temple to Mughal’s Nishat Bagh.

Imtiaz Ali’s Highway was shot in the heaven on earth at trekking site Aru Valley, which is just 15 kms from the town of Pahalgam.

Multi-starrer movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani was scripted for Manali, but actually filmed in Kashmir. What viewers thought of Manali was the land of flowers – Gulmarg.

Karan Johar’s Student of the Year was shot in Kashmir. During the shooting, he even tweeted “In the most beautiful place on earth….Kashmir….the joy of shooting a lip sync love song!!!. (sic)” with a picture of him and Farah Khan together.

The last movie of legendary director Yash Chopra Jab Tak Hai Jaan was shot in Kashmir and Leh-Ladakh, besides London. Anushka Sharma has been seen dancing on the song ‘Jiya Re’ on the Dal Lake in Srinagar. Apart from that, several other shots were also filmed here.
