Citing incidents of violence after AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa was sentenced last year, state BJP on Monday urged the police to maintain law and order irrespective of the outcome on her appeal before the Karnataka High Court challenging her conviction in the DA case.
“Irrespective of the outcome in the appeal, whether it is in Jayalalithaa’s favour or not, police department should take appropriate steps to ensure that law and order is maintained and the general public is not affected,” state BJP chief Tamilisai Soundararajan said here in a statement tonight.
She referred to some incidents of violence after Jayalalithaa was convicted in September last year, and claimed the general public was apprehensive now with the High Court verdict on her appeal set to be delivered tomorrow.
“I appeal that police and bureaucrats should uphold peace by not allowing the AIADMK cadres to take law and order into their hands,” she said.
