A fresh controversy erupted on Thursday with Bhoomata Ranragini Brigade leader Trupti Desai alleging the people who allegedly attacked her at the Mahalaxmi temple in Kolhapur of attempted murder.
The activist was hospitalised after she go through injuries in a scuffle with priests and other devotees at the temple on Wednesday night. Reportedly they were trying to stop Desai and other activists from entering its sanctum santorum dressed in a salwar kameez, instead of the recommended sari.
Desai told ANI, “They pulled our hair, tore my clothes, abused us. I think the attackers planned to kill me.” She also requested Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis to look into the matter, and take appropriate action.
Earlier in the day, she and other activists had organised the ‘Vijay’ rally on Thursday afternoon to mark ‘victory’ for the cause of women who were recently allowed to enter the inner sanctum of the temple in a major departure from the long-standing tradition.
Desai and her associates were stopped in Tararani Chowk by police where they had gathered to organise the procession.
However, she returned to the temple at night.
