As Bihar Bans Booze, MLA Receives Show-Cause Notice For Drinking | NWI

Congress on Tuesday issued show-cause notice to MLA Vinay Verma who was caught on camera drinking alcohol.

The Nitish Kumar government, recently enforced liquor prohibition in the state, faced an extreme embarrassment when Congress MLA Vinay Verma reportedly caught on camera offering liquor to his guests.

According to the Bihar Excise Act: both the sale and consumption or even offering liquor to anyone is an offence. Any person offering liquor is liable for imprisonment from 10 years to life and fine of Rs 1 lakh to 10 lakh.

The video went viral on Monday, wherein the Narkatiaganj MLA was seen offering liquor to his guests and asking them if they want to drink in Patna or Narkatiaganj. He was also seen naming different India-made foreign liquor brands.

However, Verma later claimed that his photo was morphed.

According to reports in TOI, Verma said that a team of journalists shot the video and called him to discuss on tourism at a hotel in Patna. After they were done, they reporters asked him about prohibition. He further said that he appreciated the decision and said that he is a teetotaller and even a vegetarian since 1986.
