In a major overhaul to its iPhone franchise, Apple could ditch its conventional aluminium-casting to opt for an all-glass enclosure with AMOLED screen, reports suggest.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple will move to an all-glass enclosure in 2017. The new look is likely to give Apple a competitive edge over its competetiors, who are increasingly adopting aluminium designs in their smartphones.
Although, the analyst does not elaborate how Apple will make the next iPhone entirely out of glass, he believes that drop test will not be an issue for its new design.
The new smartphone will also feature a new AMOLED screen, which will be thinner and lighter than its predecessors.
If reports are to be believed, Apple is saving its major design change for 2017, while making modest changes to iPhone 7, which is likely to be released this year.
