Aam Aadmi's MLAs To Get 'Khaas' Salary In Delhi! | News World India

Representatives of aam aadmi in Delhi may get khaas remuneration for their sewa as MLA in Arvind Kejriwal-ruled Delhi.  A committee formed by the Delhi Assembly speaker recommended a four-time hike in the present salaries of the lawmakers.

If the suggestions are accepted by the authority, the basic (salary) of the lawmakers will be raised to Rs 2.37 lakh from the present Rs 82,000. It will be a new highest for the lawmakers in the country.

It will be a second salary jump in last five years. Last time, the remunerations were hiked by 100 per cent during Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government in 2011.

Astonishingly, the government generally revises the salary of its employees once in a decade but the lawmakers in Delhi are enjoying the luxury twice in the five-year period.

MLAs of ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) raised the salary hike demand first time in July this year, right after 5 months of forming the government in the national capital. According to the demand,  the salary they have been earning is “not enough to run their homes”.

According to the report submitted by the committee, the salary and allowances Delhi MLAs are getting are “highly inadequate to meet the basic minimum requirements of an honest and performing Legislator”.

However, Sanjay Singh, the spokesman of AAP looked unhappy with the report. He said that it is not the time for salary hike when farmers are being committing suicide in this country.

Following the different opinions, objections from the key leaders and lawmakers, the file and report of the Salary and Allowance committee was sent to a select committee. After brainstorming, the new committee suggested a hike in the basic salary to Rs 50,000 from the existing Rs 12,000 and raise in constituency allowance to Rs 50,000 from Rs 18,000 and Conveyance allowance to Rs 30,000 from Rs 6,000.
