A Bengaluru-based software engineer got a new heart after a team of doctors from Care Hospitals, Nampally, successfully performed a heart transplant surgery.
The donor’s heart covered the distance of 26 Km in 13 minutes from Continental Hospitals in Gachibowli to Care Hospitals on May 14 this year. After a month long opereation, 29-year-old Santosh Sudhir Sangvikar will now be able to enjoy a normal life.
This was all possible due to the family of a 16-year-old from Nizamabad. The 16-year old was was was declared brain-dead after a road accident on May 7. After all attempts, doctors declared him brain dead on May 13 at 5 pm.
Speaking about the case, in-charge Jeevandhan, Dr Swarna Latha said, “The boy’s family took the decision to donate all his organs and save as many lives as possible. We matched the donor heart.”
While addressing a press conference on Friday, consultant cardiothoracic and transplant surgeon K.V. Raja Sekhara Rao thanked traffic police for the green corridor which made it possible and easy to shift the heart.
