Former Star TV Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Mukerjea’s wife and founder of 9X Media Pvt. Ltd Indrani Mukerjea who hails from Assam was on Tuesday arrested by Mumbai Police for alleged murder of her daughter from first husband in 2012.
She is, however, no stranger to controversies.
Mukerjea has been sent to police custody till August 31. Mukerjea and her driver had allegedly plotted entire conspiracy to murder the former’s daughter in 2012.
Both Indrani and her driver were produced in the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate’s court and the police got their custody till August 31. Both have been booked under Sections 302 (murder), 363 (kidnapping) and 201 (destroying evidence) of the IPC.
The case dates back to 2012 when Raigad police had found the remains of Indrani’s daughter, following which a murder case was registered against unidentified persons.
In 2008 Rajesh Sundaram, former Head of Domestic News at News X, sent a legal notice to the then INX News chairperson Indrani Mukerjea, alleging that his “resignation letter was forged”. Avirook Sen, former Executive Editor of INX News, who was sacked in January 2008, also sent a legal notice to the company alleging “fraudulent termination of contract and defamation”.
Sundaram sent a copy of the notice to Information & Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, in addition to Mukerjea; Vynsley Fernandes, COO; and Peter Mukerjea, Chief Strategy Officer, INX Media.
Sundaram’s counsel Rajshekhar Rao had sent the legal notice on behalf of his client, stating, “with respect to the wholly illegal and fraudulent termination of his (Sundaram) employment as Senior Executive Producer (redesignated as Head, Domestic News, with effect from August 1, 2007) with Noticee No. 1 company contract with Noticee No. 1.”
“Furthermore, I am instructed to put you to notice that your continued use of the said forged resignation letter to deny my client his lawful rights under the contract tantamounts to willfully, fraudulently and dishonestly using as genuine, a forged and fabricated document/electronic record,” the notice added.
Peter Mukerjea’s married Indrani Bora, a 30-year-old HR consultant, in 2002. From being the father of two sons aged 22 and 18, he was now also playing daddy to a five-year-old daughter, Vidhie.
“I recommend it to all fellow 46-year-olds — have another child,” said Star Television’s CEO. “It changes your entire perspective.”
Peter proposed marriage to Indrani on their fourth meeting. Since then the couple has not looked back.
