a week is left for Diwali, we bring you a simple guide which includes everything from decking up the place, setting the table to booze.
Guest list: The most tiresome work is to prepare a guest list as you don’t want to miss your favourite people, but can’t upset close friends as well. So, while you are preparing the list, leave out people who you think will be a pain throughout and those who will not show up. Keep it simple, just note down close friends who are fun to be around. And while inviting them, make a group on WhatsApp or simply send out the mail. Don’t forget to ask for the confirmation.
Party preparation: Please don’t wait for the D-day. During Diwali, you’ll hardly get any street free. People get crazy and whenever they get time, they are around market to get things. Dedicate the work among family members. Start cleaning the house, and meanwhile make a list you need and send somebody who hates shopping, this will definitely save time. Don’t miss on small things like napkins, decorative items and return gifts.
Décor: It’s Diwali, you can’t miss on decorating your home. Be innovative, get some floating candles in the bowl of water and rose petals. Lit candles in the side or on the table, be aware of the fact that they might catch fires. So, precaution is very important. Decorate curtains, walls and tables with LED lights. Preferably avoid balloons, after all it’s a Diwali party and not a birthday party, anyhow you can keep some to deck up the room or bring in some gas-filled, monochromatic bunch. Though the noise of crackers will be too high, keep decent music collection handy.
Food menu: This is one of the most difficult task when it comes to party planning. Don’t make this party a burden on yourself, rather keep it easy and tasty. You can get some easy to make appetisers and mains at home. Also, don’t hesitate to ask your friends to bring in few things. Plan a potluck if you wish to. Make sure you don’t stick to kitchen for the entire evening.
Booze: After food, or rather before eatables, booze is something you or your guests really care about…wink wink.. You will be having loads of stuffs to work on, so we advise you to not to get into the mess of making cocktails. Just make sure to bring in enough booze. Add some good wines, chilled beers and a few non-alcoholic mixes and scotch can be add-on. And don’t forget the ice.
It’s Diwali, drink but don’t be drunk. Happy Diwali
