Records are meant to be broken but Pranav Dhanawade, a 15-year-old Mumbai lad from the suburb of Kalyan has not only broken some but almost crushed them.

A 10th grade student in KC Gandhi English High School, Kalyan, Pranav broke all batting world records in minor cricket during an under-16 inter-school event organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

On Monday, he broke the highest individual score in an innings record held by an English cricketer AEJ Collins of 628* for Clark’s House against North Town set in 1899. He also overhauled Prithvi Shaw’s record score of 546 by any Indian set in 2013-14.

The opener’s sextuple hundred saw his team reach a mammoth total of 956 for the loss of just one wicket at stumps on Monday in reply to Arya Gurukul’s first innings score of 31 all out in 20 overs. Interestingly, it all happened on day one of the two-day game. The other three digit scorers for KC Gandhi school were Akash Singh (173) and Siddhesh Patil (100).

Adding cherry to the cake, Pranav’s feat was witnessed by his father who is an auto-rickshaw driver and headed to the ground to see him play when he was informed of his son’s batting mayhem.

Pranav has been playing cricket since he was five under the tutelage of coach Mobin Sheikh. Pranav also participated in the Mumbai selection trials tournaments and travelled, with his teammates, all the way from Kalyan to Churchgate for the matches.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra government has said that it will bear coaching and education expenses of Dhanawade.
