Hours after Afghanistan quelled an attack that left 9 people dead, fresh gunfight broke out at a guest house frequented by foreigners in the Afghan capital on Wednesday night, an official source said.
The security forces arrived at the scene shortly after the gun shots. The area has been cordoned off by the security forces.
A meeting was underway and several foreign officials were expected to attend it before the attack took place, a witness said.
The gunfight broke out at Park Palace guest house when four armed militants stormed the building and started firing at 8:30 pm local time in the Shahr-e-Naw area.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Taliban routinely claims responsibility for such attacks.
The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since mid-April when the militant group launched an annual rebel offensive against Afghan security forces.
Meanwhile, as Prime Minister Modi embarked on his 6 day tour of China, Mongolia and Korea, he came to know about the latest terror attack at Kabul’s guest house and expressed concern.
In the aircraft I got news about the attack in Kabul. Am concerned about the situation & I pray for everyone’s safety.
