Chennaiyin FC Captain Elano Arrested For Assaulting FC Goa Co-Owner After ISL Win | News World India

Goa police arrested Elano Blumer, captain of ISL winning team Chennaiyin FC, for allegedly assaulting co-owner of FC Goa team Dattaraj Salgaoncar during post-match celebrations.

The arrest came late in the night on Sunday after Chennaiyin FC beat FC Goa to win the second season of Indian Super League (ISL) football tournament.

“Salgaoncar has formally lodged a complaint with us and we have placed Elano under arrest,” Margao police inspector C L Patil said. The incident occurred during celebrations on the ground.

Srinivas Dempo, the second co-owner of Goa, who was present during the incident, said Elano came out of the team dugout and started making fun of FC Goa players. When Salgaocar questioned him about this, Elano assaulted him.

“We are inquiring into the incident. The formal complaint is lodged based on which the FIR is filed,” Patil said. The winning captain was booked under section 341 (wrongful restrain), 323 (causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace).

In a close match, FC Goa lost to Chennaiyin team much to the dismay of thousands of supporters who had gathered at the stadium to support the home team.
