Bihar Polls: 55 Per Cent Voting In Second-Phase, Says EC | News World India

In Bihar elections, voting is underway for 32 seats in six districts of Kaimur, Rohtas, Arwal, Jehanabad, Aurangabad and Gaya.

Voting is underway for the second of the five-phase assembly elections in Bihar.

Around 8.58 million voters are eligible to decide the fate of 456 candidates in 32 constituencies in the districts of Gaya, Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Arwal, as well as Kaimur and Rohtas, which saw some horrific caste massacres in the 1980s and 1990s.

  • After proper inspection and clearance, Defective EVMS have been replaced in Jehanabad, Polling begins in booth 247.

  • The 32 seats are spread across six naxal-hit districts- Jehanabad, Arwal, Gaya, Rohtas, Kaimur and Aurangabad. Most of the 8,849 polling booths which will see voting on Friday are in rural areas.
  • Only 9 out of a total of 32 seats would see voting from 7 AM to 5 PM. 12 Constituencies would witness voting till 4 PM, while 11 others would have balloting only till 3 PM, Additional Chief Electoral Officer R Lakshamanan said.
  • The Election Commission has cut short the time for voting by one to two hours in as many as 23 constituencies, depending upon its perception of the threat from outlawed naxalite groups.
