Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday defended Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) Arvind Subramanian, who earlier faced a critical attack from BJP MP Subramanian Swamy, saying that the government had full confidence in him and that he had provided valuable insights.
“Government has full confidence in CEA Arvind Subramanian, he has provided valuable insights from time to time,” FM Jaitley said.
“To what extent should we attack those, the discipline and constraint of whose offices prevent them from responding, its happened more than once,” he added.
Swamy after targeting RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan demanded his sacking.
“Who said to US Cong on 13/3/13 the US should act against India to defend US Pharmaceuticals interests? Arvind Subramanian MoF !! Sack him!!!,” he tweeted.
Swamy’s attack on the CEA comes in the wake of reports of Arvind Subramanian being among the list of candidates who could succeed Rajan as the governor of teh Reserve Bank of India.
