The Information and Broadcasting Ministry may sack the chairperson of Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) Pahlaj Nihalani after his legendary ‘Modi Kaka’ video paying tribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The video with lyrics “Mera Desh Hai Mahan Modi” became a major embarrassment for the NDA government of the centre.
Reports quoting senior I&B Ministry officials say that “It is a matter of time before an official announcement will be made but the decision to replace him has already been taken.”
The video in question is a song dedicated by Pahlaj Nihalani to PM Modi. The video shows a photoshopped image of PM Modi doing yoga atop a mountain. After seeing the him doing yoga, a bunch of children in the video shout: “Modi Kaka!”
Some Bollywood celebrities have reportedly called the video “an obscene form of flattery.”
Nihalani was also slammed by lot of people on social media, following his decision to cut the length of kisses in the latest Bond film Spectre by fifty percent.
However, according to the CBFC data, there has not been any major departure in the working of the board since January 2014, when Nihalani took over as the board chairperson.
CFBC data shows that 2,124 out of 2174 movies were cleared by the board at the initial examining stage since Nihalani took charge.
The official data further reveals that 50 movies were sent to examining committee of the CBFC for review, of which Nihalani reviewed only 10 movies, which didn’t include James Bond’s latest ‘Spectre’.
Four out of these movies were sent to Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) which didn’t clear one film.
