The land of Chris Gayle and Courtney Walsh i.e. Jamaica will host the second test in this series. Sadly for West Indies they won’t have the services of Chris Gayle to bail them out in the batting Department. Chris Gayle has scored the most runs by a Jamaican in all formats i.e. Tests, ODI’S and T20’S.It was a pedestrian display by West Indies in Antigua but it remains to be seen if they have the ability to bounce back. There has been a lot of criticism in the local media in the Caribbean and rightly so as they looked weak in all three departments of the game. Specially the bowling department needs a few specialist bowlers to be drafted in and one of them could be the young but very impressive Alzarri Joseph. He has played in eight first class matches but has picked 24 wickets at an average of 24.45 and was a treat to watch in the Under 19 World Cup in Bangladesh this year. He is 19 but needs to be thrown into the tough world of international cricket at the earliest seeing the struggling West Indian pace attack.
In the batting department for West Indies Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo need to shoulder more responsibility and convert their starts into a big score. India possess a quality bowling attack which can exploit any condition and that is the big reason why this Indian side led by a very aggressive captain is looking dangerous and hungry to succeed. Reports coming in from Sabina Park suggest that the surface in Jamaica could have a healthy covering of grass and our fast bowlers would be hoping to deliver again for the team. Shami bowled superbly in Antigua on a placid track looking fit and lean and has the rare ability to move the ball both ways with a lot of control. Umesh has the fire power and bowled well in the first innings in the first test. Ishant can extract bounce on any surface because of his height and Ashwin once again was spot on both with the ball and bat and had a great outing.
It is going to be interesting if India make any change in the winning combination. The only change I can think of is Rohit coming in place of Amit Mishra only if they want some cushion in the batting line up in case there is a lot of grass on surface although Virat likes to go in with five specialist bowlers. It is going to be a tough call for K&K. Overall India are favorites but can West Indians please their home crowd and spring a surprise. The picture will be clear in the next five days.
