The toll from a landslide that hit a Guatemalan village has risen to 48, while 350 people are still missing, the country’s national disaster mitigation coordination said on Saturday.

“Only 20 victims have been identified while the other 28 are not recognised yet,” said Julia Barrera, spokesman for the country’s public ministry.
Rescue work was resumed on Saturday as Red Cross rescue workers, firefighters and police with dogs continued to search for possible survivors in an area where some 125 homes were buried, Xinhua news agency reported.
The landslide occurred on Thursday night following heavy rains in the village of El Cambray II, near the town of Santa Catarina Pinula, 15 km from here.
