The Delhi government on Tuesday passed the proposal to build over 12,000 new rooms in all the government schools in Delhi.
Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia wrote on Twitter, “Delhi cabinet today approved the proposal for construction of 12478 new rooms in govt schools (including 106 multi-purpose halls, 328 laboratories, 204 Libraries.”

Announcing the decision, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the new rooms would be completed within a year to a year-and-a-half.
According to media reports, apart from around 9,000 classrooms, 106 multi-purpose halls; 328 laboratories; 204 libraries, principal’s office, vice-principal’s office and staff rooms; and 1,067 toilet blocks would be constructed by the Public Works Department at a cost of ₹2,892.65 crore (₹1,300 crore during 2018-2019 and ₹1,562.65 crore during 2019-2020).
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a tweet, mentioned the move a “massive infra boost” for the education sector of India’s capital city Delhi. A source close to the development confirms that the entire project will incur a cost of around Rs. 2,892 crores.

Deputy CM who also holds the charge of the education department said, “8,000 additional rooms have already been constructed in Delhi Govt. schools as a part of the comprehensive agenda to impart quality education to the children of Delhi.”
