US Backs India, Asks Pakistan To Take Concerted Action Against Safe Havens And Terrorist

A day after President Obama told Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of 14th ASEAN Summit that United States ‘supports India’s NSG bid, Mark Toner, US Dept of State has said that US has asked Pakistan to take concerted action against terrorists.

Mark Toner said “We’re urging Govt of Pak to take concerted action against safe havens & terrorist groups that threaten other countries in region.”

“Have seen them attempt to address it. Want to see more action taken, but it continues to be a topic of conversation,” Mark added.

On Wednesday, US Ambassador to India Richard R Verma said also said “We’re also aware India is located in a challenging neighbourhood and the United States has been very clear, at the highest levels, that Pakistan can and must do more to eliminate terrorist safe havens,”

Richard made the statement at the US-India Expert Workshop on Countering Terrorist Use of the Internet.
