Around 110 tourists, who were trapped in cable cars when the cable wires got tangled, have been rescued in an operation conducted by French authorities.

65 of the trapped tourists were rescued on Thursday night while the other 45 tourists were stuck in the frosty French Alps overnight when the cable cars were brought to a halt when the wires got tangled.

According to reports, the entangled wires have now been fixed. Rescuers stayed at work overnight to provide the tourists with food and supplies.

“There’s nothing fundamentally to fear,” said Chamonix Mayor Eric Fournier while confirming that authorities were conducting a rescue op.

The incident was reported by an anonymous police officer who said that over a 100 people had been trapped in the Vallee Blanche Cable Car.
