This Olympian Sold His Rio 2016 Medal To Save Boy Battling Cancer

Polish discus thrower Piotr Malachowski is not only a proud Olympian, but he is also a man with heart of gold.

At Rio 2016, Malachowski won silver medal and later put the same for auction for a good cause.

Malachowski put his medal up for auction in an effort to raise money for Olek Szymanski, a 3-year-old boy suffering from a rare form of eye cancer called retinoblastoma.

Through the online auction, Malachowski attempted to raise roughly $84,000 to go towards the $126,000 cost of a surgery that could possibly save the boy’s life.

Malachowski took to Facebook and shared:

Malachowski wrote”I fought for gold in Rio. Today I’m calling on everyone to fight for something even more precious. If you help me, my silver medal may turn out to be more precious than gold for Olek.”
