SAARC Conference: Rajnath Singh Returns Home, MEA Calls Media’Blackout’ Reports Misleading

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is finally back in Delhi after attending the SAARC Conference in Islamabad.

With the arrival of Home Minister, Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson called the Media ‘blackout’ reports of Home Minister ‘speech as misleading.

Vikas Swarup said ” media reports of a ‘blackout’ of our HM’s statement are misleading.”

” It is standard SAARC practice that the opening statement by the host country is public and open to the media while the rest of the proceedings are in camera, which allows for a full and frank discussion of issues,” he said.

Later, while interacting with the Media Singh said “I’ve placed India’s stand across in Islamabad. I’ll now speak in Parliament.”

Earlier reports claimed that the speech of Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is in Islamabad to participate in the SAARC ministerial conference, was blacked out as no media was allowed to cover it.

Singh was part of the joint delegation of the Interior/Home Ministers of SAARC nations.\

Rajnath had arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday to attend the SAARC Home Ministers’ Meet to underline the need for meaningful cooperation among South Asian countries.
